Himalayan Rock Salt is sourced from ancient underground salt deposits and is hand-mined with minimal processing. Unlike commercial table salt, it is not refined, bleached, or treated with anti-caking agents. It retains over eighty trace minerals including magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron, which give it its natural pink to orange colour. It is used in the same quantities as regular salt and can be ground finely for everyday cooking or left coarse for finishing dishes. In Ayurvedic cooking, it is known as Saindhava Lavana and is considered the purest salt form. It is also used in bath soaks and, in some traditions, dissolved in water as a mineral drink. Himalayan rock salt does not expire but should be stored in a dry, airtight container to prevent clumping. It is not a significant source of iodine, so those relying on salt for iodine intake should supplement separately or consume iodine-rich foods.
